The department was established to develop higher education students' communicative competence in the areas of professional and situational communication, practical foreign language skills in accordance with national and international standards.

The priority of the department is the practical orientation of the educational process, with preference given to active teaching methods aimed at developing learners' independence, variability, creativity and critical thinking. The main areas of research of the Department are: topical issues of studying and teaching philological disciplines.

Objectives of the Department:

- maintaining interaction with other structural units of the University in order to conduct joint workshops, round tables, conferences and other events;

- participation in the training of qualified specialists for the National Police;

- formation of higher education students' communicative competence in the areas of professional and situational communication, practical foreign language skills in accordance with national and international standards;

- ensuring the development, organisation and implementation of the latest educational technologies in the educational process;

- development of suggestions for improving the content and scope of the curricula of the disciplines taught by the Department;

- development and systematic updating of methodological support for educational activities in academic disciplines taught by the Department;

- raising the level of professional and pedagogical skills of academic staff;

- analysis of the current academic performance of higher education students in the disciplines taught by the Department, identification and elimination of the reasons that negatively affect its level;

- participation in the education of future lawyers and law enforcement officers, the formation of a civic position of higher education students in assessing social phenomena, protecting human and civil rights and freedoms;

- organisation of research work of higher education students, creation of appropriate conditions for the activities of the Department's scientific club;

- conducting scientific research on topical issues that correspond to the profile of the Department and the priority areas of research work of the University;

- organizing and conducting scientific research and scientific and practical events, in compliance with the principle of academic integrity;

- ensuring that practical and other types of classes are conducted at the appropriate educational and methodological level;

- determining the content, form, methods, and means of teaching, ensuring high quality and continuous monitoring of effectiveness;

- ensuring the ethical, cultural and spiritual development of the personality of educatees of the University, in the spirit of Ukrainian patriotism and respect for the Constitution of Ukraine;

- creating conditions for compliance with the principles of gender equality in the activities of the Department;

- ensuring compliance with state and branch standards of education and standard academic curricula;

- creating conditions for compliance with ethical standards, creating the atmosphere of goodwill and mutual respect in relations between academic staff and higher education students;

- taking measures to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Law of Ukraine «On Prevention of Corruption», the Anti-Corruption Programme of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Anti-Corruption Programme of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, organisational and administrative documents of the NACP, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the University on corruption prevention;

- publishing on the official website of the University information about the structure and composition of the department, the results of its activities, and other information provided by law;

- ensuring the quality of higher education of educatees in accordance with certain standards of higher education, educational and professional programmes, curricula of academic disciplines and the system of internal quality assurance of educational activities and the quality of higher education at the university;

- ensuring compliance with the safety requirements for all participants of the educational process;

- preparation for publishing textbooks and manuals in the disciplines taught by the Department;

- conducting career guidance work and participation in legal education events;

- involvement of highly qualified specialists from practical units of the National Police and higher education institutions, institutions and organisations of Ukraine in the educational process and research;

- ensuring interaction with representatives of other higher education institutions.
