The Department of Language Training (formerly known as the Department of Foreign Languages) was founded on 1 July 1992, and since June 2024 it has become an independent structural unit of the University due to organisational and staff changes at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
The Department was established with the aim of developing communicative competence in the areas of professional and situational communication, practical foreign language skills in accordance with state and international standards.
The academic staff of the department consists of 13 employees, including 7 Candidates of Sciences and 6 Associate Professors, who teach cadets, students and trainees studying at the educational and research institutes 1-5 in all specialities.
The department is responsible for 6 disciplines:
- «Foreign Language»;
- «Foreign Language for Professional Purposes»;
- «Foreign Language in Professional Purposes»;
- «Foreign Language for Researchers»;
- «Foreign Language in the Field of Research»;
- «English in Professional Purposes».
The academic staff of the Department of Language Training develops new pedagogical ideas and practices, implements the achievements of the best world pedagogical experience, which contributes to the development of ways and methods of improving the quality of cadets’ and students’ knowledge; and new forms of education, together with the computerisation of the educational process, increase the motivation to learn foreign languages. Since the establishment of the department, the academic staff has published more than 1300 scientific articles and abstracts for scientific conferences, seminars and round tables, more than 40 training manuals and methodological recommendations.
Considerable attention is also paid to the professional development of teachers and their professional self-improvement. The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department regularly participates in international and national scientific and practical conferences, seminars, trainings, round tables, undergoes internships and advanced training both in Ukraine and abroad, which is confirmed by obtaining relevant certificates.
For many years, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department, as supervisors of cadet study groups, has been involved in the educational process of young people, conducting individual work with higher education students to improve the level of national-patriotic and military-patriotic education.
Teachers of the department conduct online and offline career guidance work with future applicants studying in different regions of Ukraine and maintain contact with the management of educational institutions.
The priority of the department's activities is the practical orientation of the educational process, preference is given to active teaching methods aimed at developing independence, variability, creativity and critical thinking in educatees.
