The COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated the existing barriers that persons with disabilities faced in accessing healthcare, habilitation and rehabilitation services, education, social protection, work and employment before the pandemic, negatively impacting their rights.

During the online event the following topics will be discussed:

  • increased difficulties in accessing healthcare services by persons with disabilities;
  • negative impact on the physical and mental health and ability to live independently of persons with disabilities caused by the prolonged closure of rehabilitation centers;
  • lack of specialized mental health and psychosocial support services during COVID-19;
  • difficulties in shopping for food and accessing other basic services, when public transportation was suspended;
  • negative impact of the pandemic on already limited work opportunities of people with disabilities
  • lack of distance education in forms accessible to children with disabilities and reasonable accommodation to meet their learning needs;
  • increased social isolation of people with disabilities in residential care institutions due to a ban of all visits, including by family members.
