KhNUIA has launched the implementation of Horizon 2020 EQUALS-EU project “European Regional Partnership on Gender Equality in the Digital Age”

10-29-2020

The project is based on the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, which envisions the creation of Europe as a place where both women and men are equal, where diversity is a recognized asset for the economy and society. However, an effective mechanism for strategy implementation to eliminate gender inequality and implement non-discriminatory practices has not been developed yet. The information society, in which we live, presents new opportunities for the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge. The active participation of women in the information society is a matter of fairness and equality and it improves the competitiveness of the EU. Digital inclusion provides new ways and new solutions for women and girls to participate in all areas of economic, social, political and cultural life. Their involvement in research and innovation activities is critical to fostering digital inclusion and overcoming the complex social and economic challenges facing Europe.

"Implementation of the principles of gender equality is a priority for our country to become part of the European family", Kateryna Pavlichenko said

06-24-2022

The Innovation Camp "Gender in Science and Security" was held at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs in Kamianets-Podilskyi within implementation of the Horizon 2020 project - "European Regional Partnership for Gender Equality in the Digital Age".

The EQUALS-EU regional partnership for gender equality in the digital age is an international ambitious project, which has been implemented since January 2021 by 19 partners from Europe and beyond under the auspices of the Metropolitan University (Oslo, Norway).

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko addressed to the participants of the event. She noted, that gender parity has turned into one of the important indicators of democracy, has become the topic of international meetings at the highest level, the goal of the policies of the governments of various countries, including Ukraine. Implementation of the principles of gender equality is also a priority for our country to become part of the European family. This was confirmed by the signing of the Law of Ukraine on the Ratification of the Istanbul Convention, which introduces international standards for the protection of women from all forms of violence and allows for the creation of new opportunities for international cooperation to protect citizens. "Now the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are tasked with implementing the standards of the Istanbul Convention into national legislation and creating an equal and safe environment without discrimination," said the Deputy Minister. Kateryna Pavlichenko also noted another significant event — Ukraine's obtaining the status of a candidate for membership of the European Union, which will change our state forever.

She thanked Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, the Rector of the university, Valery Sokurenko, for the innovative approach and the organization of such a useful event, which united like-minded people from different countries, cadets, who today "jointly develop new mechanisms for achieving gender equality in the scientific and law enforcement spheres and create new policies, processes and practices that address gender equality." Kateryna Pavlichenko also thanked the partners for their cooperation and support and wished success to all participants.

The Rector of the university Valery Sokurenko noted that the staff of the higher educational institution adheres to the gender principles in their activities and actively supports all decisions of the state leadership and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the direction of creating a safe and equal future. The Rector also emphasized that the example of Kateryna Pavlichenko herself, who started service in the patrol police, and today holds the high position of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, is inspiring for young people – successful career growth and principles of gender equality implementation.

Valery Sokurenko also emphasized the importance of continuing the educational process even in wartime, because the country always needs well-trained, certified specialists – both in wartime and in peacetime, and in this sense, the decision of the Minister of Internal Affairs to keep the cadets of the power bloc from participating in combat operations and continue to acquire knowledge offline will help in the further development of our state.

The winners of the Innovation Camp "Gender in Science and Security" will be determined based on the results of the competitive tasks they have completed.
