Faculty No. 6 celebrated its 24-th birthday on October 25. Its history dates back to 1996, when the Faculty of Economics and Law was established as an administrative, educational and scientific structural unit of the University, which had the responsibility to train specialists on a self-financing basis by the Decree of University of Internal Affairs of October 25, 1996 No. 747. Two departments of training - full-time and part-time in the specialty “Law” were part of the Faculty. The lecturers of university-wide departments and leading specialists of other educational institutions of Kharkiv provided the educational and methodological process at the Faculty.

The Faculty of Economics and Law was reorganized by the Decree of the University No. 163 dated March 11, 1997. The name was changed to the “Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship” and additionally Social and Psychological Department and Entrepreneurship Department were established.

Full-time Law Department of the Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship was reorganized into the Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship and part-time Law Department of the Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship was reorganized into part-time Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship of Joint Institute of Economics and Law (which was founded by the University of Internal Affairs and “Kharkiv National Polytechnic Institute”) according to the Decree of the University of Internal Affairs No. 672 dated October 1, 1998.

Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship and part-time Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship became a part of a joint educational and scientific complex of UIA and Kharkiv State Legal University “Kharkiv University of Economics and Law” in December 1999. S. Yu. Romanov was the Dean of Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship, S. A. Zahorodnii was the Dean of part-time Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship.

The Educational and Scientific Institute of Law, Economics and Sociology of KhNUIA was established as a part of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs in March 2006 according to the Decree of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine No. 220 dated March 3, 2006. Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship and part-time Faculty of Law and Entrepreneurship ceased their activity as units of a joint educational and scientific complex of KhNUIA and KhNPI “Kharkiv University of Economics and Law” in June 2006. The Educational and Scientific Institute of Law, Economics and Sociology was reorganized into the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law and Public Communications in 2010, which later was renamed into the Institute of Law and Public Communications. The Institute was reorganized into the Faculty of Law and Public Communications in 2013. Since 2012, the Director of the Institute, and later the Dean of the Faculty was V. I. Moskovets. Since the end of 2015, he was changed by O.V. Syniehub. From the end of 2019, the Dean of the Faculty is O. V. Brusakova.

The Faculty is a multidisciplinary structural unit of KhNUIA. 8 Departments provide professional training of students at the Faculty, where about 200 highly qualified specialists work in the fields of law, psychology, sociology, computer science and economics. 2 honored educators of Ukraine, more than 30 Doctors of Sciences and more than 150 Candidates of Sciences are among them. Scientific and pedagogical staff and support staff provide the educational process at the Faculty using the latest achievements in education and modern information technology. The work of student self-government agencies and Students Council was organized at the Faculty.

The results of employees’ scientific activity of the Faculty are reflected in the doctoral and candidate dissertations, monographs, manuals, educational and methodological books, collections of scientific works and other publications.The monograph of Professor V.A. Hrechenko (“Police in Ukraine during the strengthening of the total regime “1931-1941”), textbook of professor O.O. Yevdokymova “History of Psychology”, the monograph “Legal regulation of economic security in Ukraine” (edited by Professor O.P. Hetmanets) were published in 2019–2020. Textbook “Psychology in the professional activities of the police”, written by teachers of the Department of Sociology and Psychology, won the competition of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2019 and methodological recommendations for employees of juvenile prevention on the prevention of dangerous entertainment for children connected with the Internet activity in 2020 took third place in the competition of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Legal Clinic of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs and the Gender Center of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs also work under the auspices of the Faculty, in the activity of which scientific and pedagogical staff and students of the Faculty take an active part.

A branch of the Scientific Society of Cadets and Students of the University was established at the Faculty. In the annual All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in the fields of knowledge and specialties, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine this year, representatives of the faculty No. 6 won 3 prizes: Master's student Yuliia Derevytska won in “Criminal Law and Criminology; criminal executive law”; 4-th year student of the Faculty No. 6 Tetiana Vavreniuk received a diploma of the second degree in the nomination “General and Social Psychology”; 3-rd year student of the faculty No. 6 Eduard Muzychuk received a diploma of 3-rd degree in the nomination “Administrative Law and Procedure; Financial Law; Information Law”.

The first graduation of foreign students took place in August 2020. Twenty former students of the Faculty studied full-time in the specialties “Law”, “Law Enforcement”, “Cyber Security” and “Psychology” and received bachelor's degrees. Students were successfully admitted to the Faculty in the current 2020. About 540 people expressed a desire to learn from us. The same year, the Faculty for the first time began cooperation with a higher educational establishment in the Republic of Poland - the University of Occupational Safety Management in Katowice. An agreement has been reached on the possibility of studying and obtaining a diploma of this university, joint online conferences and webinars are held.

The Faculty has sports sections and amateur art circles for the harmonious and aesthetic development of students.

Meetings of Faculty students with representatives of the creative intelligentsia are regularly organized. The traditions and customs of Ukrainian peoples are actively implemented: excursions to the Museum of Ukrainian Culture, the Historical Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts have been conducted. Visiting performances of works by classics of Ukrainian literature was organized at Taras Shevchenko Theater. A number of events dedicated to Taras Shevchenko's birthday were held. Students of the Faculty take part in such competitions as “Magic freshwoman”, the competition of amateur art groups, etc.

By the Faculty Day, a number of the best employees were awarded diplomas, thanks were announced. Among them were the Heads of Departments Olha Hetmanets, Yurii Kholod, Professors Volodymyr Shapoval, Viacheslav Yemelianov, Associate Professors Alla Shylina, Yurii Aleksandrov, Tetiana Kyrychenko and others.
