The second stage of the international technical assistance project "Development of Training Capabilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on Psychological Support in Extreme Situations" has started at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs with the support of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Psychologists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the central executive authorities will continue to master modern techniques for dealing with trauma, stress and its consequences in the five-day training "Psychological support in extreme situations - Stage 2".

The trainers are OSCE experts on psychological rehabilitation, psychotherapist Liudmyla Tsarenko and trauma-focused therapist Maryna Malinovska.

Dmytro Shvets, the First Vice-Rector of KhNUIA, opened the event, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine, the relevance and practical significance of the topic. He thanked the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for the organization and the opportunity to implement joint projects.

The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Chief Specialist of the Department of Psychological Support of the Personnel Department Artem Shliakhta noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is currently setting up a working group to work on preserving and restoring mental health of security and defense personnel. He also stressed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is updating regulations on the system of psychological support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and psychological prophylactic work with staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Migration Service, the National Police of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, the State Border Service of Ukraine, and the higher educational institutions with specific training conditions.

Serhii Hrynenko, National Project Manager, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, presented the activities of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine in the field of providing social and psychological assistance to victims of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The participants of the training were wished interesting and useful classes on acquiring practical skills of psychological assistance in extreme situations.
