Representatives of the University - Head and Deputy Head of the Research Laboratory on Crime Enforcement Kostiantyn Buhaichuk and Oleksii Serdiuk took part in a scientific and practical seminar of the Global Firearms Programme of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC Global Firearms Programme) on the topic “Harmonization of the National Legislation of Ukraine with the UN Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components, and Ammunition”, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, held in Kyiv. The seminar was attended by representatives of practical units of the National Police of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, as well as higher education institutions.

Among the problematic issues addressed by the seminar program were Ukraine's implementation of its international legal obligations in the field of criminalization of illicit firearms handling in the context of criminal law reform; problems of harmonization of national legislation of Ukraine with the UN Protocol on Firearms and the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime during the drafting of the new Criminal Code of Ukraine, etc.

With this event, the Global Firearms Programme of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime opens a separate area of its activities in Ukraine, and Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs takes an active part in this area.
