The Research Laboratory is a structural unit of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.

The Laboratory was established in March 2017 on the basis of the Faculty № 4 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs as the Research Laboratory of Data Protection and Cybersecurity.

The Laboratory became a separate unit and its name was changed in May, 2019.

The main functions of the Laboratory are:

  • - study, generalization and assessment of the law enforcement agencies’ information supply, the development of scientific recommendations for operating bodies and units;
  • - conduction of basic and applied researches on the established Priority directions of scientific support of law enforcement agencies’ activity of Ukraine and the University;
  • - assessment of the effectiveness of software and hardware used in the law enforcement agencies' activities;
  • - development of the protection recommendations against breaking-in operating systems, browsers, applications and individual software products, etc;
  • - development and implementation of the software to improve law enforcement services’ and units' activities in the field of information technology, data protection, combating cybercrime, staffing support, analytical units;
  • - carrying out the tasks of general computerization and process automatization in the law enforcement agencies’ activities;
  • - improvement of the law enforcement agencies’ and units’ activities in the field of information technology, data protection and combating cybercrime;
  • - development of national legislation in the field of information technology, data protection and combating cybercrime;
  • - participation in law enforcement agencies' international cooperation in the field of information technology, data protection and combating cybercrime;
  • - development of the draft regulatory and legislative acts regulating the information technology, data protection and combating cybercrime as well as the research-based recommendations;
  • - conduction of basic and applied researches on the educational process organization in higher educational institutions with the specific learning conditions by the use of modern information and distance learning technologies;
  • - involvement of the University’s cadets and students in the researches of the laboratory in order to promote the role of science in the educational process;
  • - generalization and coordination of scientific researches between the Laboratory and other structural units of the University;
  • - establishment of the creative contacts and conduction of joint researches with scientific institutions and law enforcement agencies of foreign countries;
  • - cooperation with international organizations and participation in the UN, the OSCE, ICITAP, the EUAM programs, etc.
