The Head of the Department is Doctor of Philology, Professor Chornyi Ihor Vitaliiovych

The following subjects are taught at the Department: "Business Ukrainian", "History and Culture of Ukraine", "Methodology of Dissertation Research and Linguistic Features of Scientific Style", "Legal Documentation".

The main areas of scientific interests of the Department:

  • traditions and customs of Ukrainian people;
  • Ukrainian philology: achievements and prospects under martial law;
  • linguistic aspects of the language of law;
  • socio-cultural aspect of the functioning of the system of language units of the Ukrainian language;
  • structural semantics, word formation, nomination;
  • linguistic aspects of legal terminology
  • literary local lore of Kharkiv region;
  • world literature of the first half of the XIX century;
  • modern domestic and foreign fiction, historical and detective prose.

Lecturers of the Department took part in the examination of the laws of Ukraine "On Principles of National Interests of Ukraine", "On Languages in Ukraine", "On Archival Affairs in Ukraine", preparation of “Dictionary-guide of femininities for employees of the security sector and central executive bodies, whose activities are directed and coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine through the Minister of Internal Affairs”.

The rating system has been developed and implemented at the Department, which provides for a differentiated assessment of knowledge and work of cadets and students. It takes into account the quality of knowledge, systematic (intensity) of work, the presence of gaps and unsatisfactory grades. Tests of various categories of difficulty and situational games are used to improve the knowledge testing system. For all disciplines, taught by the Department, video lectures are prepared, which are used during the distance form of classes, educational multimedia presentations.

Lecturers of the Department take an active part in the educational work carried out at the University (including events dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine, Constitution Day, Police Day, etc.), give lectures on anniversaries and anniversaries of Ukrainian history. At the initiative of the management of the Faculty № 2 and the active assistance of the Department an Educational and Cultural Center was created, which consists of a memorial auditorium named after Taras Shevchenko, exhibitions "Shevchenko – the soul of the Ukrainian people", "Culture and Life of Slobozhanshchina", "Outstanding Ukrainians" (Lesia Ukrainka, I. Franko, I. Sirko)”.
